Position Overview
The Vice President, Human Resources will provide strategic and operational leadership of the HR function with a heavy emphasis on team member (employee) relations, compliance, and investigations. This leader will oversee the development and execution of policies, programs, and practices that ensure a fair, consistent, legally compliant, and values-driven workplace for all team members.
Serving as a trusted advisor to the CPO, executive team, and field leadership, the VP HR will build scalable systems, lead complex investigations, and proactively address trends across a diverse, geographically dispersed workforce. This role partners closely with Operations to ensure that the HR function supports and enables hospital teams, field teams, and the Center Support Team to operate at their best.
Scope
Reports to the CPO and is a key member of the Human Resources leadership team
Leads a team with 9 direct reports
Responsible for supporting 10,000+ team members across 420+ hospitals and Center Support functions
Focused on team member (employee) relations, investigations, compliance, and HR risk management, while supporting strategic HR initiatives enterprise-wide
Partners extensively with Operations, Legal, Learning and Development, Total Rewards, and other cross-functional leaders
Key Responsibilities
Team Member Relations and Investigations
• Lead the organization’s employee relations strategy, ensuring issues are addressed promptly, fairly, and consistently across all locations
• Oversee a team responsible for handling high-volume and complex investigations, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, and workplace conduct matters
• Provide expert guidance to leaders on performance management, conflict resolution, disciplinary action, and termination processes
• Partner with Legal to manage employment litigation risks, external complaints, and agency inquiries (EEOC, DFEH, OSHA, etc.)
• Identify ER trends and root causes and develop proactive programs and interventions to address systemic issues
Compliance and Risk Management
• Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local labor and employment laws
• Oversee policy development, updates, and communication to ensure clarity, compliance, and consistency across all hospitals and support functions
• Lead the organization’s response to regulatory audits and investigations
• Partner with Legal and Operations to develop preventive compliance strategies and ensure risk is managed effectively across the enterprise
• Implement and oversee case management and reporting systems to drive transparency, consistency, and data-driven insights
Labor Relations
• Develop and execute PetVet’s labor relations strategy, including monitoring for organizing activity, ensuring compliance with NLRA obligations, and partnering with leadership to maintain positive team member engagement
• Serve as a key contact for any industrial or labor relations matters
Policy, Training and Capability Building
• Develop and deliver leader and team member training on workplace conduct, investigations, compliance, and policy interpretation
• Partner with Learning and Development to embed ER and compliance topics into broader leadership training programs
• Ensure leaders are equipped with the knowledge and tools to address ER issues effectively and escalate appropriately
Strategic HR Leadership
• Translate business strategies into people and compliance priorities for hospitals, field teams, and Center Support
• Partner with the EVP Operations and executive team to align HR initiatives with operational priorities
• Contribute to enterprise HR strategy, bringing a risk and compliance lens to leadership discussions and decisions
• Continuously evaluate and improve HR processes to enhance efficiency, scalability, and legal defensibility
