Job Description
Bluegrass Equine Surgery (BES) is an equine veterinary practice providing exceptional client service and primary medical care in the central Kentucky region. We are building a new, diverse, supportive, and driven team.
BESC is seeking to immediately fill the position of Seasonal Equine Field Vet Technician.
Hours: Part Time, 20-30 hours
Reports to: Assigned doctor, Hospital Manager
Department: Field
Location: Field, varies
Compensation: Hourly, based on experience
The BES Field Vet Tech accompanies and assists the doctors with all aspects of patient care in the field.
DUTIES
General
Assist in daily procedures such as radiographs, emergencies, and ultrasound
Communicate with other doctors and administrative staff
Bill using EZ Vet software
Willingness to be flexible on schedule
Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
Comfortable driving an SUV
Medical
Stock trucks according to doctor preference
Break down trucks at the end of the day
Set up and take mobile radiographs with the doctor
Take blood for laboratory procedures
Prepare and handle horses
Jog horses during pre-purchase and lameness exams
Assist with euthanizing
Assist in emergencies (colic, lacerations, etc.)
Gather proper information for Coggins, fill out forms, take pictures, identify markings
Other
Model professionalism and ethical practices
EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated, advanced understanding of equine veterinary practices
Ability to read horse body language and perform advanced handling of horses and foals
Self-motivated lifelong learner
Work well independently and as part of a team
PERSONAL
Feel and express a genuine liking for animals and for working in an animal-care environment
Promote cooperative working environment among staff members; understand the value of teamwork; show enthusiasm and willingness to perform as necessary to help the practice functioning as a unit

Perform other duties as assigned
Work under the broad general administrative supervision of the owners and doctors, and use sound personal judgment in selecting methods, establishing priorities, and arriving at conclusions
Work uncommon hours, overtime, and be subject to recall in emergency situations
Display discretion, tact, and diplomacy with staff members and clients
Be flexible in attitude and work habits.
